Do Anti-Smoking Adverts Really Work?

After the latest part of the seemingly innumerable 'stop smoking' campaign was launched by the NHS for Halloween, one really has to ask whether these types of adverts really work or not. So, I went out into Preston city centre to ask some members of the public, smokers and non-smokers alike as to if these ads work, and if so, why.

Well, along with the majority of those in the video, as well as others I asked who didn’t make the video, felt that cigarette advertising doesn’t really work. And I’m inclined to agree with them. Those adverts only really work if you want to quit smoking, but just don’t know where to go or who to talk to. People already know the effects of smoking, and like the warnings on the box, I don’t think that until people are encouraged not to smoke, there’s going to be a huge change. As a non-smoker that may sound a bit absolute, but that’s my opinion.
